UK is located
at the heart of Europe and very diverse in its landscape and people and has a
wealth of culture, history and natural beauty that can be discovered and
explored. Applicants can apply to visit for different purposes such as leisure,
business or any other reason, such as family and friends, take on sports and
creative activities for private medical treatment or just to visit the country
for a maximum of six (6) months.
Certainly it
is not necessary to have friends or relatives in the UK in order to apply for
the Visa.
Recently, the UK government has changed the Standard Visitor visa to
the following categories:
• General Visitor visa;
• Child Visitor visa;
• Business Visitor visa, including
visas for academics, doctors and dentists;
• Sports Visitor visa;
• Entertainer Visitor visa;
• Prospective Entrepreneur visa;
• Private Medical Treatment Visitor
visa; and
• Approved Destination Status (ADS)
visa.
All
candidates in this category must demonstrate to the British immigration
authorities that can keep the UK without recourse to public funds or work and
get paid. However, they can show that they have the help of family members (s)
living in the UK. The UK visa application can be made in person or online and
pay the visa costs £ 85, if you have collected the following documents (if a
national visa or more than 6 months stay):
Documents
checklist:
• a current passport or other valid
travel identification;
• 1 passport-sized colour photograph;
• proof that you will not remain longer
than 6 months in the UK (unless your visitor visa category allows longer
stays), for example:
o a return ticket;
o proof of employment or studies in your
home country;
o proof that you have family ties in
your home country;
o proof that you can support yourself
during your trip, for example bank statements or payslips for the last 6
months;
• Details of where you intend to stay
and your travel plans - you shouldn't pay for accommodation or travel until you
get your visa; and
• Additional documentation based on the
purpose of your visit and age:
o Unpaid business, entertainer or sports
activities in the UK - sports and entertainer visitors might be able to remain
if they are eligible to switch into the Tier 5 Temporary Worker category;
o Performers at permit free festivals;
o Prospective entrepreneur - allows you
to remain in the UK if you switch into the Tier 1 visa category;
o Academic visitors and accompanying
family - allows you to stay for up to 12 months;
o Private medical treatment - allows you
to stay for up to 11 months; and
o Work related training.
Individuals
under 18 should also include:
• a Birth Certificate or legal document
(such as adoption papers) showing the relationship between you and your parent
or guardian
• If traveling unaccompanied or with
someone other than your parent(s) you should provide:
o a signed letter from your parent(s)
confirming details of anyone accompanying you, and details of care and
accommodation arranged in the UK;
o a copy of your parent(s) or legal
guardian’s biographical page of their passport, which includes their signature
and passport number if your parent(s) do not have a passport then you must
provide another official document which bears their signature.
All
documentation that is not in English or Welsh must be translated by a certified
translator.
It's
important to note that you cannot:
• do paid or unpaid work;
• live in the UK for long periods of
time through frequent visits;
• marry or register a civil
partnership, or give notice of marriage or civil partnership; or
• get public funds.
What will I
need to make my application?
This will
depend on which category you are applying for entry under. In all cases you
will need to make your application online or fill in an application form. You
will also need the following.
– Your
passport or travel document.
– A recent
passport-sized (45mm x 35mm), color photograph of yourself.
This should
be:
– taken
against a light colored background
– clear and
of good quality, and not framed or backed
– printed on
normal photographic paper, and
– full face
and without sunglasses, hat or other head covering unless you wear this for
cultural or religious reasons (but the face must not be covered).
– The visa
fee. This cannot be refunded, and you must normally pay it in the local
currency of the country where you are applying.
– Supporting
documents relevant to your application.
What is
‘biometric’ information?
All UK visa
applicants, save for those benefiting from a limited number of exemptions and exceptions,
are required to provide biometric data (10-digit fingerscans and a digital
photograph) as part of the application process.
You will have
to go to your nearest visa application centre in person to provide your
biometrics. In those countries where there is no visa application centre, you
will need to go to the British mission.
